Sam is 6’2″, has brown eyes, and messy brown hair. He has glasses and develops freckles on his face when he spends a lot of time in the sun. He grew up in New York City, to a single mother, with an older brother. His mother is Hispanic, but he has never met his father and knows nothing about him. The family lived in California originally, but Sam’s mother was in an abusive relationship. She left California with Sam’s older brother, not knowing she was pregnant with Sam.
Sam was a precocious child who learned to read by age 3. He was also very self-reliant. When he was 12, he started doing chores for neighbors and within a few months earned enough money to buy his first computer. He is introverted and very good at reading other people’s emotions. He had very few friends in high school.
He earned a full scholarship to MIT, where he studied computer programming. His roommate at MIT, Kyle, became his best friend. Sam applied for the FBI because Kyle suggested it. He did very well in training but opted for becoming a forensic computer analyst. Currently, he and Kyle share an apartment.
Sam is very insecure and can struggle to set healthy boundaries with people. He compensates for this by avoiding getting close to many people. He can also be oversensitive, especially with people he trusts. He feels a strong sense of responsibility for his mother and older brother because they took care of him as a child. He also fears he is replaceable and there isn’t much value in what he does.
Ultimately, Sam’s moral compass centers around care for others. Although he doesn’t get close to many people, he has a strong sense of empathy and is extremely loyal to those he is close with. He would do almost anything to make sure they were safe.
