I’m asking this as a kind of general question. Honestly, where do you get the idea for a story from? Is it an image? A sentence? A feeling?
Personally, I usually have an image or a scene in my head. That’s how it starts. There may be one character, or there may be a few of them. Sometimes it’s just one image that represents the story. Other times, a little part of the story plays out in my mind.
That’s the romance that I have stuck in my head. Just one conversation between two friends. I feel like there’s more there. What led up to that conversation? How did they get there? What happened before? What happened after?
Then there are the stories that spring from music. My fantasy story is one of those. The song brought to mind images, but after I listened to it a few times, I realized the images were telling their own story. Writing is art, just like music, so there are stories hidden in the songs.
