Second Chances (pt. 3)

Hannah walked back to her hotel. She was exhausted. The meetings had dragged on. Spending all day in meetings after a plane ride was the last thing she had wanted to do. The bed and room service was calling her name.

She set the key card on the door handle. Nothing.

She frowned.

She slid the key around a bit, trying to see if it was the wrong place.

Still, nothing.

“What the heck?” She sighed. She’d have to go back downstairs and get a new key. Whatever that guy did this morning must have been a fluke.

“Hey, it’s the girl with the key trouble.”

She looked up to see the same man, walking down the hall. Heat rose in her cheeks.

“Yeah. Still, unfortunately.” She held up the key and shrugged.

“I can try it again, if you want.”

She laughed. “I mean, sure. But sooner or later you won’t be here to open my door.”

He held out his hand, and she gave him the card. He set it against the handle. The light turned green.

“What?! I don’t get it.”

She set the key back in the same spot. It turned green. She scowled at the door.

“I don’t think beating up the door will help.” His voice was light.

She shook her head. “I swear, I can open a hotel door on my own.”

He smiled. There was that dimple. Left cheek.

“I’m sorry,” she started. “I can’t help but feel like we’ve met before.”

“I’m Jason. I live in Atlanta. I work in sales. Does that help?”

Hannah shook her head. “You live in Atlanta?”

He nodded. “Graduated from Georgia State three years ago and decided to stay.”

“I’m Hannah. I grew up in Atlanta, but I live in Charlotte now.”

Jason grinned at her. “Well, Hannah who grew up in Atlanta, would you like to get some dinner? Maybe we can figure out how we know each other.”

She laughed. “Sure. I could use a good burger.”

“Lucky for you, I’m a burger expert.”
