Hannah sighed, dragging her suitcase out of the car’s trunk. Worst Uber driver ever, she thought. She slammed the trunk and headed into the hotel.
Checking in went smoothly. She should have known then. Something would go wrong. She tapped the key card against the door handle.
Nothing.
She held it there for a moment.
Nothing.
“Why me?”
“Do you need some help?”
She turned suddenly, to see a man coming out of the room across the hall. Their eyes met and Hannah had a strange sensation wash over her.
“I’m sorry, have we met?” she asked.
“I don’t think so.” He smiled.
But she knew that smile. The little dimple that appeared on his left cheek.
He walked across the hall. “The doors here are so difficult. May I?”
She handed him the card and he held it to the door handle.
The light turned green.
Hannah quickly turned the handle, not believing the door actually unlocked.
“Thank you!” She pushed the door open slightly and began pushing her suitcase inside.
“Um, here.” There was a little chuckle in his tone, as he handed her the key card.
“Oh. Yeah.” She took the card, feeling heat rush into her cheeks.
“Unless you’re planning on my opening your door all the time.”
She looked up into his brown eyes. They were warm, despite the teasing tone of his voice.
Hannah shook her head. “I’m sure you have other things to do.”
His eyebrows rose.
Her entire face turned red.
“I didn’t mean it like that,” she managed to get out. “Sorry.”
“It’s ok. I hope you have a better day.” He turned and headed down the hall.
Hannah felt a sudden shiver. She was sure she knew him.
