I am a very visual person.
What I mean by that is I see in pictures. Most of my stories start out as images from music or a daydream. But a lot of times, I hear a song and my mind takes off.
The first draft I finished (the one I am working the hardest on, right now) is inspired by a song.
This song. It’s on Spotify, and I have listened to a lot of their songs. I love the sound of Celtic music, and this one just has an eerie quality to it. I fell in love the first time I heard it. And then wrote a whole story, created an entire world, a religion, a magic system. Based on the images this song brought to my mind.
This world lives in my heart. The first story is almost 100K words. It needs some work, for sure, and I am working on it. But there’s so much more.
The characters I started with have grown into people. Real people who have histories, families, and futures…. somewhere. I know where some of them are going. Others, I’m still unsure about. But the world is there, and the story is begging to be told.
So I’m telling it.
And it all started with a song.
